In regular cotton, fibers are twisted together once before weaving. This gives a solid, structured yarn — the foundation of classic heavy cotton t-shirts, known for their durability and clean drape.
Ring spun cotton, on the other hand, is made by twisting and thinning the fibers multiple times during spinning.
This creates a finer, rounder thread — which gives the finished fabric a softer touch and a subtle stretch.
So while both are 100% cotton, their character is different:
- Heavy cotton feels firm, structured, and substantial.
- Ring spun cotton feels smoother and a bit more flexible.
Neither is better — they simply serve different tastes and styles.
